Hi everyone! Long time no post, eh? Well, you see I have been really busy moving my room. I'm actually still in the process of setting up all my toys and putting up posters. I got a new desk, too. It's from the 1930's and it's really neat.
Here I am at the map at the very beginning of the trail - As you can see it is a rather large trail and we didn't even get close to finishing it today. Next time, when we come back we will hike more! Mama did my hair in braids today because I'm hiking - And I prefer to keep my hair like that anyway. I always like to start my hikes and adventures off with a photo of me near a map, so I insisted to get my picture taken here.
As we went down the path, I heard a lot noises in the bushes you might be able to see in the very corners of the photo. It was mostly just birds - But I know fox and deer roam here! It scared me at first, but then I saw the little finch come out of the bush and I laughed at myself. This part of the trail was laid with stones, but the rest of the trail away from the road is just dirt.
You may not be able to see it in this picture, but I'm looking at one of the many winding streams in these woods. If you're really quiet, you can hear the stream trickling! It's a really peaceful noise - I love the sound of water running! A lot of leaves are on the ground, but in the summer they will eventually decay and new, green leaves will grow on the trees! I love when things start to grow, don't you?
Here I am nearby a HUGE birch tree that fell down. It was cut off in the middle from where it blocked the path. If you didn't know, birch trees are my favorite kind of tree. I love the white bark and the light, pretty insides. It's such a same this one fell - It was sure a mighty one!
There was a little bridge across a stream, and I stood on the top and listened to the pretty, calming noise of the stream trickle below. It was so calming and peaceful to just sit there and watch the water run below me. I wanted to throw a stick in, but Mama said we have to move on. Maybe next time. I love doing that, you throw a stick in the water, then run to the other side to see it come out - But sometimes it gets stuck in sand or rocks under the bridge and it never makes it to the other side.
Believe it or not, this brown background is a uprooted tree! It was gigantic! You may see some white stuff sticking out, those are the roots! You don't see it in the picture, but right below me was a big, deep looking water hole that used to be where the tree was - The rain filled it up, and it's a water hole now!
By the bridge I mentioned earlier, there was a fallen log, and on the way back Mama let me go down and sit on it and watch the water - Of course I had to make sure I wouldn't fall or it wouldn't break! It was a sturdy one fortunately, so I was able to sit.
Sadly, all good things must come to an end, so Mama told me we had to hike back the the car. Here I am walking up one of the very steep hills - It was super fun though!
Have you ever gone hiking?

Spring is also coming! Can you believe it is in only 2 days? I'm very tired of winter - We didn't even get snow to play in! It's just bitterly cold, and sadly March has the worst, cold, winds of the year. But this year Easter is in March! Woohoo!
Anyway, Today I went to the Judge Morris Estate Park - Which is a branch- off of White Clay Creek State Parks. The Judge Morris estate was built in 1790 and is now still standing and open for tours. There is a walking trail also connected to the estate that was owned but Judge Morris. Today I walked the trails, I will be touring it sometime soon. The trail behind and beside the estate is very hilly, and has many different little streams running through it. Many of the rocks that are placed on the trail are gone now, but a few still last. That means you're walking on a rock someone might have walked on in the 1700's!
Because of many recent bad storms like Hurricane Sandy, many trees and huge branches have fallen. The State cares for it by cutting the branches away that interfere with the trail.
